SBC&GS was founded in 1971 under the leadership of Pastor Royal Blue as an extension of Multnomah School of the Bible and soon became known as the Northern California Bible Institute, committed to equipping Christian servant-leaders for ministry in the rural regions of Northern California. In 1982 NCBI transitioned into a four-year undergraduate institution named Shasta Bible College, continuing its original mission of preparing Christian servant-leaders. In 1985, Dr. David R. Nicholas was called as President, leading the institution through the process of developing its graduate programs, achieving approval by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and ultimately full accreditation with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and School (TRACS), one of two Christian accreditation agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit both undergraduate and graduate education. TRACS is also approved by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is listed in the publications: Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education and the Higher Education Directory.
